The 2nd Battalion was deployed in April 1994 to central Bosnia as part of the United Nations ‘Protection Force’ (UNPROFOR).

6th Volunteer Battalion, Nuclear Biological Chemical training, Salisbury Plain
The 5th (Volunteer) Battalion re-roled as a transport regiment in 1996. The 6th and 7th Volunteer Battalions were merged to form part of the East of England Regiment in 1999.

This parade was part of an army initiative to strengthen relationships with ethnic minorities in Leicester.

In 2000 elements of the 2nd Battalion deployed to Sierra Leone to train the newly formed National Army.

The 1st Battalion was deployed to Kabul from March-June 2002 and the 2nd Battalion followed in February- October 2003. Duties involved counter-insurgency patrols, community reassurance and training the new Afghan army.

While there are female Royal Anglian soldiers serving with the East of England Regiment, current legislation does not permit women to serve in teeth arm units such as the 1st and 2nd Battalions. This is a topic of continuing debate and media interest- where will women be serving in 2014?
